$100,000 bail set in Carlsborg stabbing case

PORT ANGELES — Bail was set at $100,000 on Monday for a Carlsborg man being held on investigation of attempted murder in the stabbing of the mother of his child.

Deeon Emilio Gonzales, 20, of Carlsborg appeared in Clallam County Superior Court on Monday afternoon for an initial appearance after the Saturday stabbing of 18-year-old Carlsborg resident Britni K. Gallauher, according to court documents.

Superior Court Judge Erik Rohrer set Gonzales’ bail, noting that while Gonzales has no adult felony criminal history and turned himself in, he also has a juvenile felony court record, and the nature of the current allegations are “fairly horrific.”

“Their baby was closely involved in the situation,” Rohrer said.

According to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office documents, Gallauher was stabbed five times during a confrontation in an alley between her home and Gonzales’ separate house between Streit and Carlsborg roads, just south of Spath Road in Carlsborg.

There was no information available for Gallauher at Olympic Medical Center on Monday, according to hospital spokeswoman Bobby Beeman.

Chief Criminal Deputy Ron Cameron said Monday that while her wounds were serious, they were not believed to be immediately life threatening.

Gonzales remained on the Clallam County jail roster as of Monday afternoon.

Additional bail requirements included a domestic violence no-contact order, surrendering any weapons and restriction of movement to Western Washington.

Gonzales is scheduled to be back in court Wednesday at 1 p.m. for a filing of charges, said Michele Devlin, deputy prosecuting attorney.

The exact charges to be filed have not yet been determined, Devlin said.

The stabbing took place outside Gonzales’ residence at around 4:20 p.m. Saturday, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Sheriff’s Office probable cause statement, Gonzales and Gallauher, who had been dating for five years but recently broke up, were arguing over the custody of their 1½-year-old daughter Saturday.

Gonzales had taken custody, and after an argument via text messages, Gonzales invited Gallauher to meet with him at his 741 Carlsborg Road home.

Gallauher told deputies Gonzales later sent messages intending a fight and also offering to hand the child over at his home.

“As soon as Gonzales handed their daughter to Gallauher, he pulled out a knife and began stabbing her several times,” the report said.

The report said Gallauher was stabbed three times in the back, once near the left shoulder and once in the stomach.

Gonzales took the child from Gallauher, returned to the house and fled on foot toward the Olympic Discovery Trail, the report said.

Gallauher was transported to Olympic Medical Center, where she was found to have a punctured lung.

The child was found safe and unharmed inside Gonzales’ residence.

The Sheriff’s Office has said the child is in the care of grandparents.

The weapon used in the attack was described as a homemade knife, or “shank,” by Sheriff’s Sgt. John Keegan.

The weapon has not been recovered, Keegan said.

On Saturday, an 8-hour search for Gonzales was conducted by deputies, officers from the Sequim Police Department and members of the U.S. Border Patrol.

The initial search was called off at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, and Gonzales turned himself in to deputies at the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office at about 11 a.m. Sunday morning.
