2 Sequim women remain hospitalized after this week’s head-on collision on U.S. Highway 101 in Blyn

BLYN — Two Sequim woman remained hospitalized Thursday, one in serious condition at a Seattle hospital, after a two-vehicle, head-on wreck on U.S. Highway 101 near 7 Cedars Casino earlier this week.

Janet Hampton, 82, was in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center on Thursday, while Miki Kamauchi, 85, remained in satisfactory condition at Olympic Medical Center, according to hospital representatives.

Initial information from OMC said Hampton had been treated and discharged as of Wednesday.

The two women were injured after the 2012 Honda CRV that Hampton was driving Tuesday collided with a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander sport utility vehicle driven by Melanie Cable, 42, of Sequim on Highway 101 outside of 7 Cedars Casino in Blyn at 6:26 p.m., the State Patrol said.

Kamauchi was a passenger of Hampton’s, the State Patrol said.

According to the State Patrol, Hampton turned left onto Highway 101 from the casino parking lot and was struck by Cable’s eastbound car.

The State Patrol listed the cause as Hampton failing to yield.

Both vehicles stopped in the middle of the highway, blocking traffic in both directions for one hour, the State Patrol said.

Cable was taken to OMC after the wreck and had been treated and discharged as of Wednesday.

Two teenage passengers in Cable’s car were uninjured in the crash, the State Patrol said.

All were wearing seat belts. Both vehicles were totally destroyed, the State Patrol said.
