PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fire Department has received a $2,000 grant from FM Global to support its community smoke detector program.
According to a press release, the grant enabled the department to purchase 92 residential smoke detectors to install in local homes.
The department stresses the importance of working smoke detectors because early warning of smoke and fire is critical to ensuring enough time to escape from a rapidly progressing fire.
Since its inception, the fire prevention program has installed 406 free smoke detectors in Port Angeles homes.
Fire Marshal Mike Sanders credits the work of Firefighter/EMT Tyler Gage in obtaining this grant and thanks Swain’s General Store for maximizing the purchasing value of the grant funds.
