PORT ANGELES — Businessman Terry Roth made it a three-man race Tuesday for Clallam County commissioner.
That’s three candidates — two of them Republicans who conceivably could be the “top two” survivors of the Aug. 19 primary under Washington’s latest election rules.
Roth, a Republican, will join attorney David R. Fox of Port Angeles to challenge incumbent Commissioner Mike Chapman, R-Port Angeles.
Roth is general manager of Northwest Duty Free Stores, and he and his wife, Maggie, own the currency exchange on the MV Coho landing.
Roth also served as a Clallam County deputy sheriff from 1973 to 1980 and twice ran for sheriff.
A 36-year resident of Clallam County who has lived in Forks, Sequim and now Port Angeles, Roth said he knows each area.
“Being a businessman, knowing what it takes to make a payroll and understanding the three different ‘personalities’ and economic drives that make up the county” gives him an understanding of its nature, he said in prepared statement.
