PORT ANGELES — Two men and a child were killed Monday in a two-car crash on U.S. Highway 101 near Blue Mountain Road.
Passersby pulled two children from a fire-engulfed car before it exploded, said an eye witness.
The 1 p.m. crash snarled traffic along U.S. Highway 101 for about five hours with seven miles of the highway closed, stretching from Carlsborg to Old Olympic Highway.
The identity of one of the dead, a passenger in the car that burned, was unconfirmed late Monday.
Troopers, who found only a badly burned driver’s license for identification, said they believe he was a 39-year-old man from Port Angeles.
The driver of the other car, Abani Biswas, 44, of Beaverton, Ore., died while being transported to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.
A passenger in that car, Ankita Biswas, 7, of Beaverton, Ore., died after she was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the State Patrol.
Four others were treated for serious injuries.
One other was treated and discharged.
