3rd UPDATE: Port Angeles police seek man linked to drive-by shooting following frightening chase and house-storming

PORT ANGELES — Police on Saturday continued seeking a man they called armed and dangerous after chasing him through a Port Angeles neighborhood just before midnight Friday.

They linked the man, Ordez E. Kompkoff, 20, of Port Angeles, to drive-by shots reported earlier in the week and to a home invasion early Saturday.

He is sought on an existing warrant for residential burglary and felon in possession of a firearm in addition to questioning about the shooting and the home invasion.

During the pursuit late Friday and early Saturday, officers say a man matching Kompkoff’s description barged into a home, commandeered its telephone and told its occupants they could not leave or call police.

He then left the residence and remained at large.

The home’s occupants declined to be identified to the Peninsula Daily News.

Police minutes earlier had forced the truck in which they think Kompkoff was riding into the garage of another home, destroying the truck and damaging the garage and a vehicle parked inside.

No one was hurt by the drive-by shots, which were reported Wednesday, or during the chase or home invasion.

Besides hunting for Kompkoff, officers arrested Jonathan Lewis Reid, 19, of Port Angeles for investigation of eluding police and motor vehicle theft.

Reid remained in the Clallam County jail Saturday without bond.

Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith gave this account of events:

At about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, witnesses living on Orcas Avenue reported hearing gunshots near the Sea View Apartments, 2215 S. Chase St. No one was injured, and no damage was reported.

However, an officer later found .40-caliber shell casings near where a witness had reported someone pointing a handgun toward the apartments from the window of a white four-door passenger car.

Police identified Kompkoff as a person of interest in the reported drive-by shooting.

When Cpl. Kevin Miller stopped a Ford F-150 pickup truck for a traffic violation Friday night and recognized Kompkoff as a passenger, Miller withdrew from the vehicle and summoned more officers.

The truck’s owner, Michael Anthony Lannoye, 19, of Port Angeles, got out of the vehicle. He was not arrested.

But another passenger in the F-150, Reid, took the wheel of the truck and drove off.

After a two-block chase, Miller performed a controlled sideswipe of the truck and forced it into a garage on Lauridsen Boulevard near Race Street.

Miller said he and police dog Jag tracked Reid to another garage nearby and arrested him.

Jag also located in a different location a handgun police believe belonged to Kompkoff.

Emergency dispatchers received several 9-1-1 calls as police chased Reid and Kompkoff through neighborhood yards.

At 12:07 a.m. Saturday, a resident of East Ninth Street said a man matching Kompkoff’s description knocked on his door, pushed into his house and commandeered his telephone.

Police said the man identified as Kompkoff then left the house and got into a silver truck driven by an unknown person, and the Ninth Street resident called police.

Officers could not locate the truck, its driver or Kompkoff.

Police on Saturday said Kompkoff may have access to at least two additional firearms and should be considered dangerous.

They described him as African-American, 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds with a tattoo on his neck.

Anyone who sees him or knows his whereabouts should call 9-1-1.

Port Angeles police were assisted by the U.S. Border Patrol, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol.

People with information about the Orcas Avenue gunfire should call police at 360-452-4545 or provide information through the Anonymous Crime Tips links at the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office website, www.clallam.net/sheriff, or the Port Angeles Police Department website, http://tinyurl.com/pdn-anonymoustip.

Police said no government agency will have access to informants’ email addresses, which also will not be displayed on the site or released to anyone.
