PORT ANGELES — Many people consider it the scariest intersection on the North Olympic Peninsula.
Cars back up on Deer Park Road when movie patrons pour out of Deer Park Cinemas, and turning left from the road onto U.S. Highway 101 — cutting into traffic racing from both directions — is intimidating to even veteran drivers.
On Monday, Clallam County officials announced they’ve applied for a $4.5 million Federal Highway Administration grant to build a Highway 101 overpass at Deer Park Road.
It’s the second try to put an overpass over the busy intersection, which reportedly has about one injury accident a month.
