PORT ANGELES — With two days left until the city stops accepting applications, the City Council has an assortment of candidates to choose from for its seventh member.
So far, five people have applied, all having different backgrounds.
They are Thomas D. Davis, a musician and former Indian Council chairman in El Dorado County, Calif.; planning commissioner and postman John C. Matthews; registered nurse Sheryle L. Outcalt; forestry consultant and former city councilman and mayor Glenn Wiggins; and Nippon Paper Industries USA employee and 2009 council candidate Rick Burton.
The deadline for submitting applications to City Hall is 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Special meeting
The six City Council members will interview applicants during a special meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
A selection may be made then or at the council’s Feb. 2 meeting.
The appointee, who will serve a two-year term, will hold the tiebreaking vote for deputy mayor.
Council members Cherie Kidd and Don Perry each received three votes for the No. 2 position at the council’s Jan. 5 meeting after the council picked Dan Di Guilio as mayor.
The council has had a vacant seat since Larry Little, elected in the November general election, resigned Dec. 31, only two days after he took the oath of office.
He cited his wife’s cancer and chemotherapy treatments and the needs of his family as the reasons for his departure.
The council seat will be up for election in November 2011.
Applications can be picked up at the City Manager’s Office and City Clerk’s Office or can be downloaded from the city’s Web site, www.cityofpa.us.
