PORT ANGELES –Sixty-six candidates filed in Clallam County, which has 51 positions open, last week.
The filing period ended Friday.
There are 17 contested races and five offices with no filings.
A primary will be held on Aug. 18 to narrow the field for Port Angeles City Council No. 2 and Sequim City Council No. 3 positions.
The other contested races each have two candidates running.
The general election will be in Nov. 3.
An extended filing period will take place from Wednesday through Friday for the following vacant positions:
• Cape Flattery School District No. 401, Director District 1.
• Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation, Commissioner No. 1.
• Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation, Commissioner No. 2.
• Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation, Commissioner No. 3.
• Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation, Commissioner No. 4.
Candidates can file in the Auditor’s Office election center in the basement of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223. W. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
The office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The following races are headed for an Aug. 18 primary. The top two candidates in the runoff advance to the general election:
• Port Angeles City Council No. 2 — Edna Petersen, Peter Ripley, Max Mania and Rick Burton are running for Port Angeles City Council No. 2. The seat being vacated by Larry Williams.
• Sequim City Council No. 3 — Don Hall, Michael East and Bob Anundson are headed for a runoff.
