FEELING ANY DIFFERENT . . . today?
As expected, a coronal mass ejection — CME— from the sun hit Earth’s magnetic field today at approximately 1200 UT (5 a.m. PDT).
CMEs are huge bubbles of gas threaded with magnetic field lines that are ejected periodically from the sun.
Today’s impact induced measurable ground currents in the soil of northern Scandinavia and sparked bright auroras around the Arctic Circle.
And, way above us, a moderately strong (Kp=4 at present) geomagnetic storm is underway.
