PORT TOWNSEND — More and more visitors to Port Townsend are looking for cultural, art and learning experiences and that translates into more tourism dollars for business owners, said Centrum’s managing director.
“Cultural tourists spend more money and that spending proliferates throughout the community,” Keven Elliff, who has led Centrum since 2002, told about 50 people attending Monday’s Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
Because of increased interest, Centrum is having its best year in its 35-year history at Fort Worden State Park, he said.
He pointed to programs filling up with participants and the high quality of faculty and workshops.
Centrum is growing, and Fort Worden is transforming into a Lifelong Learning Center to attract cultural tourists.
With that and the Northwest Maritime Center being built in the coming year, Elliff said, “It is simply a great time to be a business, as these other projects grow.”
