MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Radioman Third Class Frank Samuel Hoag Jr., of Aberdeen, will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8.
Hoag was born on July 6, 1919 and died aboard the USS Oklahoma (BB 37) on Dec. 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Hoag enlisted in the Navy in Seattle on April 4, 1940 and completed basic training and aviation radio school in San Diego.
He was briefly assigned to the USS Tennessee (BB 43) before being transferred to the Oklahoma mere weeks before the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Hoag’s remains were recovered from the battleship as part of Operation Oklahoma which began in April of 2015.
Prior to the disinterment project, more that 388 sailors and marines assigned to the Oklahoma remained unaccounted for.
As the remains of servicemembers were recovered from the vessel, they were transferred to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency laboratory on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.
Since its inception, the project has positively identified the remains of 355 missing sailors and marines.
