Activities for young and old set this weekend

A variety of activities are in the works for this weekend on the North Olympic Peninsula.

• Clallam County Fair Coronation will be on Saturday.

One queen and three princesses will be crowned at the Exposition Building at the Clallam County Fairgrounds.

The free event, at 1608 W. 16th St., is open to the public, and will include a silent auction to support college scholarships awarded to the four girls. The silent auction is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and the ceremony at 1 p.m.

This year’s royalty candidates are Aliya Gillett of Forks, Tish Hamilton of Port Angeles, Brooklyn McKnight of Port Angeles and Olivia Ostlund of Sequim.

The 2024 Clallam County Fair will be held Aug. 15-18. This year’s theme is “Celebrate the Bounty of Our County.”

• “Israelism” film screening is planned at the Port Townsend Community Center, 620 Tyler St., at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Lori Bernstein, Daniel Rosenberg and Joseph Bednarik will host the screening of the 2023 documentary that explores a generational divide among American Jews over the manner in which Israel treats Palestinians.

The film will be followed by a community conversation regarding the film and its implications.

• Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St., Port Angeles, plans a variety of events this weekend.

Studio Bob will host Last Friday Art Social with Host Zoe Omega from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. today.

The free art-oriented gathering hosted by artist Omega will have plates and drinks available for purchase at the onsite Loom Bar.

Later tonight will be the Out Loud Story Slam — Theme Expectations with hosts Nessa Goldman and Meredith Vincent.

Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. for the show at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $12 in advance at outloud-storyslam.ticketleap.com/storytelling- at-studio-bob or $15 at the door. Cash and card accepted.

On Saturday will be the GenX Dance Party — An Iva Handfull Production.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The dance is for all generations, 21 and older. Tickets are $15 in advance at https://genx danceparty.ticketleap.com/january2024.

Music will be from the ’80s and ’90s. The DJ will be The Professor.

The Jean Lenke Trio will kick off the Concerts in the Woods Series on Saturday.

The concert will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road in Coyle.

Tickets are by donation only with a suggested $20.

Lenke will share favorite songs from the classic jazz standards catalogue as well as folk and fusion favorites by singer-songwriters Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Lizz Wright, Ritchie Havens and Sandy Denny.

• Art in the Air is an exhibit on view at Sequim Museum & Arts.

The historic model aircraft are on display through Saturday at the museum at 544 N. Sequim Ave. It is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Saturday.

The show is presented by the Olympic Silent Flyers RC Club.

• Burst of Color, an exhibition by textile artists at Northwind Art’s downtown gallery, is on view at the Jeanette Best Gallery, 701 Water St. in Port Townsend.

It will be on display through Feb. 25. The gallery is open from noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays.

Mia Torres will perform from 5 to 7 tonight at the Old Alcohol Plant Inn, 310 Hadlock Bay Road, Port Hadlock. No cover charge.

• Jill & Kevin will perform from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in Spirits Bar and Grill at the Old Alcohol Plant Inn, 310 Hadlock Bay Road, Port Hadlock. No cover charge.

• The OrcaStraitors will perform for dancing from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, Sequim. Admission is $12 per person, $10 for lodge members.

• Adult Night Out will be hosted by the Forks Library from 6 to 8 tonight.

At the free night out at the library, 171 S. Forks Ave., participants will be able to test their local knowledge with a North Olympic Peninsula trivia contest.

Future nights out are planned for April 26, July 26 and Oct. 25.

Sew Day will be hosted by the North Olympic Peninsula Quilts of Valor from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The annual event is in the American Legion’s Marvin G. Shields Post No. 26, 209 Monroe St.

The public is invited to come help sew; no prior quilting experience is necessary.

Quilts of Valor will provide fabric, quilt kits, cutting mats, cutters, irons and ironing boards.

Attendees should bring a sewing machine, if possible.

Quilts of Valor is a volunteer organization that sews quilts to present to veterans of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, as well as to current service members.

• Port Townsend Urban Sketchers will sketch in uptown Port Townsend at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The group will meet in front of Aldrich’s, 940 Lawrence St.

After sketching, the group will reconvene in front of Aldrich’s at noon to share their work and take a photo.

The event is free and open to sketchers of all skill levels.
