PORT TOWNSEND — Passengers unhappy with political signs on Jefferson Transit buses will have to ride and bear it.
The space is leased and the message on ads do not reflect the views of Jefferson Transit, said Dave Turissini, the bus system’s general manager.
Signs posted both inside and outside buses say “No higher taxes, no higher rates, no on Prop 1.”
Proposition 1 is a measure on the Nov. 4 general election ballot that asks voters to give the Jefferson County Public Utility District the authority to provide electrical power service.
Electrical power service now is provided by Puget Sound Energy.
Several passengers in the past week contacted Jefferson Transit with questions about the signs, Turissini said.
“We never endorse any politician, issue, service or business,” he said.
“Anything that’s on those buses, it’s not the view of Jefferson Transit.
“Jefferson Transit does not sell the ads that appear on our coaches.
“We simply lease the space for those ads to Lamar Inc.”
