PORT ANGELES — Let’s Make Art, a free after-school program at Stevens Middle School that began last year, will return today to give students hands-on experience in a variety of media in sessions led by professional artists.

The four-week program starts with Anne Pfeiffer leading a two-part session, “Pet Portraits,” today and Feb. 20, followed by “Clay & Creation” with Ariel Zimman on Feb. 27 and “Recycled, Reused, Reclaimed” with Christopher Allen on March 6.

Students can sign up for sessions at the Stevens Middle School front office. Each session runs from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is capped at 15 students.

Transportation is not provided.

The sessions take place in room 17, the school’s art room.

A second four-week session in April will feature a new lineup of local artists and activities.

Those dates have not yet been determined.

An exhibition showcasing the students’ work will be held during the 32nd Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts from May 23-25 at Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St.

A private opening for students, families, artists and program partners will take place May 22.

Let’s Make Art is a partnership among Field Arts & Events Hall, Juan de Fuca Foundation for the Arts and the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center to expand creative opportunities for young people.

The program is supported by grant funding from the Port Angeles Education Foundation and ArtsWA.
