Jefferson County Commissioner Kate Dean greeted Jefferson Transit’s No. 14 Kingston Express bus Tuesday morning as it began its first trip — with eight passengers — to the Kingston ferry dock.
Rides are free through March 31 on the new route, whose departures are at 7:15 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Monday through Saturday from Port Townsend’s Haines Place transit center. The bus stops at Jefferson Transit’s Four Corners park-and-ride lot and at the Gateway Visitors Center in Port Ludlow on its 72-minute journey to Kingston, where riders can catch the Kitsap Transit foot ferry to Seattle or the Washington state ferry to Edmonds.
