PORT TOWNSEND – A $60,000 custom-made aluminum sport-fishing boat stolen in Jefferson County in May was found Friday in Port Gamble, stripped and partially cut up.
The boat is one of 18 that have been stolen in eight counties, and investigators are trying to piece together evidence for what they believe is a boat theft ring.
“We’re trying to find common threads,” said Jefferson County Undersheriff Tim Perry.
The boat – or what was left of it – found Friday was discovered by Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies after receiving a tip.
The owner is Jay Brevik, who also owns Lee Shore Boats Inc. on Fredericks Street, about a mile south of downtown Port Townsend.
“The boat is never going to look new again,” Brevik said, looking over the chopped aluminum hulk that he and his employees towed back to Port Townsend on Saturday.
