PORT ANGELES — A total of $70,000 is available to groups, clubs and organizations to help fund projects, special events and festivals that will attract overnight visitors to Port Angeles in 2014.
This tourism promotion money comes from Port Angeles hotel-motel-B&B bed taxes.
The money is disbursed by the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors based on recommendations by the chamber’s Special Events Committee.
Deadline for submitting an application for a tourism promotion grant is 5 p.m. today (Monday, Feb. 10).
To obtain a grant-request application, and criteria for receiving the money, email Russ Veenema, the chamber’s executive director, at russv@portangeles.org.
If there are questions, phone Veenema at 360-452-2363, Ext. 13.
Only applications emailed by the Feb. 10 deadline will be considered.
“This is part of the contract the chamber has with the city to market the community,” said Veenema.
“In the past, the committee has awarded grants ranging from $500 to $15,000.
“The amounts vary a great deal depending on the size of the event or project and the potential return on investment to the city.”
