Authorities seek man who helped at crash scene — he might be exposed to hepatitis B

BLYN — The identity of a good Samaritan who helped paramedics at the scene of a fatal head-on crash was being sought Monday to tell him that he might have contacted contaminated blood.

Clallam County Fire District No. 3 paramedics say the man might have come into contact with blood containing the hepatitis B virus from an injured passenger in the Sunday crash just east of Blyn on U.S. Highway 101.

Benjamin A. Lyle of Port Orchard, the driver of an eastbound 1991 Toyota Camry, died at the scene when a westbound 1992 Mercury Sable driven by Virginia A. Hayden, 42, of Renton crossed into the eastbound lane, Washington State Patrol investigators reported.

The force of the crash caused Lyle’s vehicle to flip over a guardrail and roll down an embankment.

The unidentified samaritan being sought helped paramedics and firefighters at the fatal car crash scene Sunday night.

Anyone who can identify the man is asked to have him call Matt Newell at 360-683-4243, Ext. 6.
