PORT ANGELES — Mylar balloons caused a six-hour power outage Sunday night that affected several blocks in the Lincoln School neighborhood, said Craig Fulton, director of public works.
The number of city electric utility customers who lost power was not immediately available Monday morning, he said.
Someone released the mylar balloons and they tangled in the power lines, causing the lines to short out, Fulton said.
Power initially went out at about 9 p.m., and crews were on scene to begin repairs at about 10 p.m., he said.
Fulton said an additional area near the affected lines was taken offline for the safety of the line workers.
Power was restored at about 3 a.m., he said.
