QUEETS — A wandering bear in the road has been blamed for a logging truck accident on U.S. Highway 101 just south of the Jefferson County line Monday afternoon.
Loose logs blocked the southbound lane for about five hours, according to a statement from the Washington State Patrol.
Carl Ray Perkins, 35, swerved to avoid hitting a bear in the roadway about 12:45 p.m., the statement said.
There were no injuries.
The 2005 Kenworth tractor trailer Perkins was driving sustained about $30,000 in damages.
The northbound lane remained open while crews worked to remove logs from the roadway around milepost 141, about 50 miles south of Forks.
The collision is still under investigation.
