Blaze destroys RV in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — A recreational vehicle was destroyed in an early morning fire in Port Townsend on Friday, according to East Jefferson Fire Rescue.

The flames were extinguished within 15 minutes of the initial call, and no one was injured, said Emily Stewart, EJFR spokesperson, in a press release.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters investigated a report of a vehicle fire in the 1800 block of 13th Street in Port Townsend at 2 a.m. Friday, Stewart said.

Staff from a nearby senior care facility noticed the flames and alerted the resident closest to the RV, who was able to evacuate his nearby home before responders arrived, she added.

A volunteer firefighter arrived first and reported a fully-engulfed recreational vehicle.

Upon arrival Engine 16 and Engine 15 firefighters quickly began extinguishing the blaze, Steward said.

Another vehicle, several homes and nearby trees were at risk of exposure, she said.

Flames were extinguished by 2:14 a.m. Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera (TIC) to check nearby structures for potential fire and no further risk was found, Stewart said.
