Blaze destroys RV off Old Deer Park Road

No one injured in fire near Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A fire has destroyed an RV off Old Deer Park Road east of Port Angeles.

No one was injured in the Tuesday blaze, Clallam County Fire District No. 2 officials said.

Firefighters encountered a fully-engulfed RV producing a large column of black smoke when they arrived at about 4:35 p.m.

It was initially unclear whether all occupants had escaped the RV, Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue officials said.

The owner of the RV confirmed that the RV was unoccupied. She was moving vehicles away from the fire when firefighters arrived, district officials said in a press release.

Crews used a hose line deployed from the first-arriving engine to initially knock down the flames.

“Upon the arrival of additional personnel to the scene, the firefighters began a search of the RV and extinguished any remaining hot spots,” district officials said.

“Due to the amount of fire upon arrival the RV was a total loss.”

The woman who owned the RV said she had left and returned to find smoke coming from the residence, district Chief Jake Patterson said.

Patterson said the fire may have been caused by a portable propane heater.

“That’s our best guess,” Patterson said in a Wednesday interview.

“There were a lot of combustible materials in the RV.”

The woman who lived in the RV was put in connect with the Red Cross to arrange for temporary housing.

No pets were unaccounted for, Patterson said.

The fire was reported on the 200 block of Old Deer Park Road, just southwest of the Deer Park Cinemas.

“It was kind of wedged in the woods on the property there,” Patterson said.

Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue responded with two fire engines, one water tender, two command vehicles and one ambulance. A total of 17 firefighters responded to the incident.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office also was on the scene.
