BLYN — Two people were killed and a third was critically injured in a head-on collision Thursday that blocked U.S. Highway 101 in both directions for nearly four hours.
The deaths of a couple from Louisiana continues a string of fatal crashes on the North Olympic Peninsula’s major highway during the past week.
Thursday’s wreck happened at about 4:45 p.m. between Blyn and the Jefferson County line.
State Patrol Trooper Glen Tyrrell at the scene said a preliminary investigation showed a 2001 Ford Windstar van driven by 40-year-old Clint L. Darrow of Port Angeles was traveling eastbound on Highway 101 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 1995 Saturn sedan in the westbound lane.
Driver Leah Suzanne Reed, 44, and her passenger, Johnie Lavern Reed, both of Sulphur, La., were pronounced dead at the scene.
