Blyn: Wildfire sparked by truck blazes in undeveloped state park

BLYN — A wildfire that sent a plume of smoke visible across much of the North Olympic Peninsula appeared contained late Sunday.

But the blaze on undeveloped Miller Peninsula State Park acreage is being watched in case flames flare out of control.

No structures were damaged by the fire, officials said.

Firefighters with the state Department of Natural Resources were expected to bring in at least two helicopters and several bulldozers to take fire command late Sunday night and today, Clallam County Fire District No. 3 Assistant Chief Roger Moeder said.

Firefighters from Clallam and Jefferson counties would remain on the scene to assistant state firefighters, Moeder said.

“It just shows you how dry it is here,” Moeder said in front of his command truck in Ludke’s driveway.

“This is probably something that is going to go on for a few days.”

The fire was sparked by the heat from a pickup truck’s muffler.
