SEQUIM — A “walkabout” is set for this afternoon on a quiet Sequim lane.
The foray, to start at 1 p.m., could also be called a “talkabout.”
A band of local volunteers is headed onto East Spruce Street to discuss how the so-called “missing link” of the Olympic Discovery Trail could be finally be found there, thus solving a problem that has puzzled city leaders and cyclists from all over the North Olympic Peninsula.
The volunteers, members of the Sequim Citizens Park Advisory Board, will go door to door this afternoon discussing a proposed Discovery Trail segment on Spruce and inviting that street’s residents to a meeting on the topic next Tuesday.
The public meeting, hosted by the park advisory board, will start at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St.
The Discovery Trail, a biking and hiking path designed to eventually stretch from Port Townsend to the Pacific Ocean at LaPush, has two legs into Sequim: one entering the east side at Carrie Blake Park and another crossing the northwest side of town.
But for years, the Sequim City Council has wrestled with where to connect the two.
