PORT ANGELES — A fishing vessel was damaged in a fire at the Port Angeles Boat Haven today.
The Port Angeles Fire Department extinguished the blaze aboard the 50-foot Orca at about 2:40 p.m.
“There was damage done to the side of the boat through the galley area,” Capt. Duke Moroz said.
“At this point in time it’s under investigation, but we believe it was possibly an electrical short.”
No one was on board when the fire broke out.
The wooden vessel is home-ported in Port Angeles.
Moroz estimated that the fire caused about $15,000 in damage to the boat and another $7,500 in lost contents.
Damage to the hull was above the waterline.
The city fire department responded with two units and five firefighters. They were joined by six others on a general alarm.
Moroz said the firefighters had “really good support” from the Port of Port Angeles, which moved vessels out of the way and assisted from shore.
“They were very helpful,” Moroz said.
