BREAKING NEWS: Load of logs spills dangerously near hazardous chemicals, gas

PORT ANGELES — A log truck lost its load while making a left turn off Tumwater Truck Route, state Highway 117, west onto Marine Drive at about 8:30 a.m. today.

Driver Gardner Pritchard was not injured and no other vehicles were involved.

The truck slid over the sidewalk taking out about 50 feet of chain-link fence around Platypus Marine Inc., 102 N. Cedar St.

The truck skidded into concrete barriers, inches away from two large propane tanks, said Port Angeles Police Officer Glenn Wood.

The load of logs — which remained intact as the trailer broke away from the cab — stopped a few feet away from a storage shed which houses hazardous chemicals, he said.

The crash snarled traffic along Marine Drive for about two hours.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

“At this point we do not know if there was driver error involved,” Wood said.
