PORT TOWNSEND – Jefferson County commissioners today approved a hiring contract for a new county administrator, who is scheduled to start work Oct. 16.
Philip Morley, 54 and now serving as assistant city manager in Maple Valley, will be paid $110,000 a year plus mileage, the commissioners agreed. He will not receive a car allowance or county vehicle.
The commissioners’ action, taken after a 2-hour break in their Monday afternoon meeting, 20 minutes of which was in closed executive session, comes after a search of seven months.
Morley has been Maple Valley’s assistant city manager since March 2007. He was hired at 80 percent time for $89,000 a year, but is working there full-time today at $107,000 a year, he said.
