CHIMACUM — A woman died today in a house fire south of Chimacum, and a fire dispatcher says a man who tried to rescue her was injured.
Keppie Keplinger, a dispatcher for East Jefferson Fire and Rescue, says the house was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived shortly before 11 a.m.
She says a woman who lived at the house about five miles south of Chimacum was unable to escape and died. A man who also was at the house did get out safely, but a bystander who tried to rescue the woman has been flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of burns to his hands.
Keplinger says about 30 firefighters from Port Ludlow and East Jefferson County responded to the fire. The cause was under investigation.
