One person was killed Wednesday night when a vehicle burst into flames after crashing off Camp Hayden Road, west of Port Angeles, shortly before 10 p.m.
The vehicle appeared to have been northbound on Camp Hayden Road, north of state Route 112, when it left the roadway and crashed into trees. The force of the collision tore the vehicle into at least two pieces.
Clallam County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters from Fire District No. 4 searched the area around the crash scene for other possible victims before a witness reported the driver appeared to be the only person in the vehicle.
The driver’s identification was unknown, according to one of the deputies.
The roadway was closed while investigators tried to determine the cause of the crash.
