PORT ANGELES — A broken water main beneath Front Street — U.S. 101 westbound — near Washington Street has closed the highway.
The break this afternoon buckled the pavement, requiring the city to dig up the road with heavy equipment.
Traffic is being routed northbound on Washington Street to Georgiana Street, then to Race Street and back to Front — about one square block. The detour will last until at least tonight, when crews hope to have a temporary lane open for westbound traffic.
Additional details will appear in the Tuesday Clallam County edition of the Peninsula Daily News.
