SHINE — Hood Canal bridge closures originally scheduled for this weekend have been canceled.
Contractor crews working on the center lock mechanism completed this week’s work early, so they will not need to close the span of state Highway 104 across the bridge on Friday or Saturday, the state Department of Transportation said Thursday.
The original closures were to take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night.
The span will remain open to traffic subject to typical closures for marine vessels, DOT said.
The overnight closure scheduled for 10 p.m. Thursday, May 16, to 5 a.m. Friday, May 17, will still occur, DOT said.
Work on the bridge will resume with overnight closures beginning Monday, May 20. The bridge will be open to traffic Memorial Day weekend.

Each night of work is weather dependent and could be rescheduled.
