PORT TOWNSEND — An early morning house fire was contained to one room by the efforts of a resident and crews from East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.
Residents of a two-story house at Logan and 10th streets called 9-1-1 early Sunday morning after a smoke alarm alerted them to smoke and flames in a laundry room, according to Patricia Willestoft, assistant public information officer for East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.
East Jefferson Fire-Rescue was called out at 1:04 a.m. and responded with two engines and a crew of 10.
Upon arrival, firefighters found one of the residents attempting to put out the flames.
East Jefferson Fire-Rescue extinguished the fire, which was contained to one room.
One resident was treated for smoke inhalation.
The Red Cross was called to assist the family.
Nonpartisan race
PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Democratic Party has made an endorsement in a nonpartisan election race.
Cathy Marshall, who works for the state Attorney General’s office, asked for the party’s endorsement in her bid to unseat Clallam County District Court 1 Judge Rick Porter, according to a news release.
At a Saturday meeting, the Democrats voted unanimously to endorse her in the Nov. 4 general election.

The Lions Clubs in Port Angeles and Sequim are looking for adult and children eyeglasses donations.
Children’s glasses are especially needed.

Climber injured
YAKIMA — Authorities say a Bellingham man who fell 60 feet while rock climbing in the Naches area is expected to recover from his injuries.
Yakima County sheriff’s Sgt. Ed Levesque said the 29-year-old was climbing the face of a cliff Saturday when an anchor that he set pulled off the rock, causing his fall.
He was airlifted to Yakima Regional Medical Center.
Levesque said Sunday that the climber was wearing safety equipment and a helmet when he fell.
The sheriff’s office, Naches Fire, Yakima Fire and other agencies responded to the report at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday.
