Rotary Club recognizes graduate

PORT ANGELES — Nor’wester Rotary of Port Angeles recently recognized 2014 Crescent High School graduate Jenny Criss with Student of the Semester honors.

Criss was selected by teachers and other staff for her leadership, academic achievements and consistent community involvement.

She recently attended a breakfast with the Rotary Club to tell Rotarians about her past achievements and future plans.

Criss will receive a $500 scholarship for future collegiate endeavors.

Planned outage on West End this Sunday

PORT ANGELES — The Bonneville Power Administration has scheduled a planned power outage to maintain its equipment at the Sappho substation.

This outage is planned for 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday.

It will affect all customers in Forks, LaPush, Sekiu, Clallam Bay, Neah Bay, Beaver, Sappho, Pysht and all areas west of

Lake Crescent.

Dog park barbecue

PORT ANGELES — A second anniversary celebration barbecue in honor of the success of the Port Angeles Dog Park group will be held on the knoll outside the park, located in Lincoln Park next to the BMX track on Lauridsen Boulevard.

The event is at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Attendees are asked to bring a favorite side dish and help make long-range plans for the park.

Paddlers to meet

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Paddlers will meet at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., at 6 p.m. Wednesday,

Sept. 10, for the annual potluck and gear swap.

Young Eagle Rally slated in Sequim

SEQUIM — The Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 430, is holding its fourth and final Young Eagle Rally at Sequim Valley Airport, 468 Dorothy Hunt Lane, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday.

Young aviation enthusiasts ages 8 to 17 should bring a parent or guardian along for free airplane rides.

In case of inclement weather, the rally will be postponed to the following Saturday, Sept. 13.

Church flea market

SEQUIM — Olympic View Church of God will hold its third annual Outdoor Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

A wide assortment of vintage and handmade goods will be available in various booths.

The market will take place in the church parking lot, located at the corner of Brown Road and East Fir Street.

The ladies of the church will host a bake sale that day. There also will be food available for sale by the Sequim Rotary Club.

The space rental fees and bake sale receipts provide funds for the Women’s Ministry program and support mission projects.

Universal dances

PORT TOWNSEND — Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave., will host “Dances of Universal Peace” at 7 p.m. Sunday.

These dances are simple, meditative, multicultural circle dances that use phrases, chants, music and movements from many spiritual traditions to “touch the essence within and recognize it in others,” according to a news release.

No experience is necessary.

Admission is by donation.

Sea star survey

PORT ANGELES — A Citizen Science Sea Star Survey will take place at the Freshwater Bay boat ramp from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

All are welcome to participate in the free event.

This is the last survey of the summer.

In addition to checking for sea star wasting disease, the Feiro Marine Life Center group has added juvenile sea star counts to the survey.

Wear boots and layers, depending on the day’s weather.
