Brinnon man accused of gun threat at Little League game

QUILCENE — Jefferson County deputies arrested a 58-year-old Brinnon man Friday night after they said he pointed a handgun in the face of a 64-year-old spectator during a Little League game and threatened to kill him.

Adults and children were nearby in the grandstand at Deema Smakman Field, deputies said.

Stephen Lloyd Dixon remained in custody without bail in the Jefferson County jail Saturday after he was arrested for investigation of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.

Dixon is expected to be arraigned Monday in Jefferson County Superior Court at the County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

Deputies said witnesses at the youth baseball game told them Dixon was using loud and profane language when a 64-year-old Quilcene man asked him to watch his language in front of the children.

“It was mainly F-bombs, one after one another,” Jefferson County Sheriff’s Capt. Ben Stamper said, adding that no alcohol was involved.

Stamper’s report says Dixon was asked to control his language shortly after 8:30 p.m.

Dixon left but returned brandishing a .32-caliber automatic Colt pistol, Stamper said.

Stamper said Dixon pointed the gun at the man who confronted him about the profanity “from a distance of only a few feet.”

“‘I’m going to effing kill you’ is what he said,” according to Stamper.

Witnesses said the gun also was pointed in the direction of the bleachers occupied by spectators that included families with children.

Dixon did not fire the weapon, Stamper said, and told deputies after he was arrested “that he had felt threatened by the Quilcene man” who asked him to watch his mouth.

Witnesses told deputies that Dixon then walked back to his vehicle and drove off.

Witnesses got his license plate number, and at least one person identified him, which led deputies to his Brinnon home.

When deputies arrived, they demanded that Dixon come out of his home, knowing he was armed, Stamper said.

Dixon surrendered in his driveway without incident, Stamper said.

Stamper said Dixon did not have a previous criminal record.
