BRINNON — A 44-year-old Quilcene man was killed when his motorcycle slammed into a guardrail on U.S. Highway 101 at Mount Walker.
State troopers identified the man as Donald Allan McNutt, who became the year’s 16th fatality on North Olympic Peninsula highways.
The State Patrol said McNutt was riding northbound on Highway 101 when his 1995 Harley-Davidson XL1200 veered off the right side of the road on a left-hand curve, hitting the guardrail.
Emergency medical personnel from Jefferson County Fire District No. 4 treated McNutt, and an Airlift Northwest helicopter was summoned to the scene before he was pronounced dead.
State Patrol regional public information officer Brian George was unable to provide details about what might have caused the motorcycle to veer off the road, and troopers who investigated the crash were unavailable Monday.
Fourth Jefferson death
McNutt became the fourth highway fatality in Jefferson County this year. A total of 12 deaths has occurred on Clallam County highways and roads — mainly Highway 101 — since Jan. 1.
