CHIMACUM — State Department of Natural Resources firefighters were investigating the cause of a brush fire in the 800 block of Sommerville Road in Chimacum on Friday.
Firefighters from area districts and the DNR were dispatched to the fire at 3:51 a.m. Friday after a neighbor called 9-1-1, said Bill Beezley, East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokesman.
Upon arrival, firefighters found an area 0.13 acres in size on fire, burning grass, brush and the base of trees.
Firefighters from East Jefferson Fire-Rescue, Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue, Quilcene Fire Rescue and Naval Magazine Indian Island worked to extinguish the fire which was brought under control at about 5:50 a.m.
At 7 a.m., the fire grounds were turned over to a six-person DNR crew to complete the overhaul.
