PORT TOWNSEND — Barbara Blowers is far from clamming up about her family’s long, colorful history at the newly restored, turn-of-the-20th century clam cannery building that juts out over the Quincy Street tidelands.
Kevin Harris, who in 2002 bought and started restoring the red-brick structure, recently completed the exterior retrofit and remodeling work that includes rustic wooden and copper-plated doors, and new decking.
Harris is now remodeling the interior for condominiums and business space.
During the course of restoration, Blowers related to Harris her family’s history in the once steamy, noisy cannery that employed more than 20 people.
They processed and canned fresh local clams for market.
Her family’s imprint dates back to 1928 when her grandparents, Paul and Evelyn Guilford, bought the cannery building and took over operations.
