PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles High School sports marketing students recently held the first DECA Rally in the school’s courtyard.
DECA, or Distributive Education Clubs of America, is the student business marketing organization on campus.
As a part of students’ final class projects, they presented a sponsorship package for a small wood derby car to local businesses that would be represented in the races.
Colton Kish and Kendra Perszyk, representing Fitness West with its car, won first place overall.
“The response from the community was incredible,” marketing instructor and DECA adviser Jennifer Kunkel said.
“First Federal bank provided the cars, and there were 21 sponsors. The community donated $400 in sponsorships.”
The following businesses were represented in the race: First Federal, Fitness West, Baby Grand, Platt Irwin Law Firm, Black Diamond Electrical, Spa Shop, Pacific Rim Hobby, Bella Rosa Coffeehouse, Bearstone Builders, Runs with Scissors, Fairchild Floors, Arrow Marine, Northwest Driving School, Peninsula Golf Shop, Baskin Robbins, Olympic Electric, Smugglers Landing, Evergreen Collision, Windermere Real Estate, Strait Web Solutions and Integrity One Home Mortgage.
