PORT ANGELES — Pacific Bay International is the recipient of the Clallam County Health and Human Services Developmental Disabilities Business Leadership Advisory Committee’s Employer of the Quarter award.
The Carlsborg-based company is a manufacturer and direct importer of fishing rod components.
This award is given to employers who practice diversity and inclusion in their hiring practices by having one or more employees with developmental disabilities
on staff.
Pacific Bay has employed a worker with a developmental disability for more than 10 years.
Encourages hiring
Vic Cutter, vice president of sales and marketing for Pacific Bay, said this demographic is an often overlooked job pool and encouraged other employers to consider hiring.
Cutter said that in his experience, employers get workers who take pride in their work, feel committed to the “team” and are very dependable.
He also praised the community employment providers like Morningside who come in once a week to make sure things are going well, both for the worker with a developmental disability and for the employer.
