SEQUIM – The pharmacy at Olympic Medical Cancer Center has received a Class A license and a 100 percent score in an inspection by the state Board of Pharmacy.
The recent inspection included pharmacy policies and procedures, training programs, competency testing, clinical practices, computer safety features and compliance with United States Pharmacopeia standards for compounding sterile products.
Janet Hudkins, director of pharmacy at Olympic Medical Center, the cancer facility’s parent organization, announced the news to hospital commissioners Wednesday.
She also announced a $455,000 upgrade of OMC’s Pyxis automated dispensing machines.
“Many people deserve a great deal of credit for what should be considered a major achievement toward our goal of providing state-of-the-art care for patients at Olympic Medical Cancer Center,” she said.
The cancer center pharmacy serves only patients being treated for cancer-related or blood-borne therapies.
OMC’s Port Angeles hospital also holds a Class A license.
Class B pharmacies are found to have major deficiencies that must be corrected quickly before they are closed by the state Department of Health.
