PORT LUDLOW — A special program to help senior citizens fit behind the wheels of their cars better and more safely makes its second appearance in Washington at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
The CarFit program, sponsored by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Task Force, will be held at the Port Ludlow Beach Club, 121 Marina View Drive.
The program is by appointment only by calling 360-385-3831.
“I wanted to bring it over here where we have a high population of seniors,” said task force coordinator Linda Pfafman, who recently attended the first CarFit program held in the state in Shoreline.
Washington was chosen for the program by AARP and other national senior organizations.
The program better positions seniors above their steering wheels using special car seats and brake and accelerator pedal extenders, among other special adapters.
Three occupational therapists, one trained especially in driver safety, will attend to help seniors.
“The program makes suggestions such as cushions to elevate drivers and other accessories to make you in better control of the car and that makes you a safer driver.” said Pfafman.
The program is expected to go to Clallam County next, she said.
