CARLSBORG — The five-year-old issue of improving traffic flow and pedestrian safety in this U.S. Highway 101 corridor community destined for commercial growth again was examined by Clallam County commissioners and Public Works officials Monday.
County Commissioner Steve Tharinger, D-Dungeness, whose 1st District includes Carlsborg, suggested that county road officials take a broader look at Highway 101 traffic in and around Carlsborg and bring the state Department of Transportation into the discussion.
Tharinger said a traffic-improvement formula for funding sources, such as state, county, private developers, or a combination of all, needs to be hammered out.
“It’s coming and it’s coming at a rate that we aren’t ready for,” Tharinger said of Carlsborg’s future commercial growth.
“We need to start to figure out a way for some agreeable funding mechanisms that we can work with.”
Tharinger spoke during a work session Monday at Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles.
