Carlsborg man charged with assault for allegedly stabbing mother of his daughter

PORT ANGELES — Deeon Emilio Gonzales has been charged with first-degree assault for allegedly stabbing the mother of his infant daughter.

The 20-year-old Carlsborg man will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Oct. 3 in Clallam County Superior Court.

He remained in the county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail Wednesday.

The county Prosecuting Attorney’s Office added firearm and deadly weapon and domestic violence aggravated offence enhancements, Superior Court Judge George L. Wood told Gonzales in a five-minute court hearing Wednesday.

First-degree assault is a Class A felony that carries a maximum punishment of life in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said Gonzales stabbed his ex-girlfriend Britni Gallauher five times with a homemade knife near 151 Streit Road in Carlsborg at about

4:20 p.m. Saturday.

Deputy Brian Knutson wrote in the certification for probable cause that Gallauher was holding their 1½-year-old daughter when Gonzales stabbed her.

After the alleged stabbing, Gonzales took the crying child to his nearby residence, left her there, then ran toward to the Olympic Discovery Trail, court papers said.

The child was found safe.

Gallauher, 18, was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries at Olympic Medical Center.

Sheriff’s deputies, Sequim police and members of the Border Patrol searched for Gonzales until 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

He turned himself in at about 11 a.m. Sunday.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Michele Devlin on Wednesday amended Gonzales’ domestic violence no-contact order with Gallauher because her first name was misspelled in the original order.

Defense attorney Harry Gasnick said the deadly weapon enhancement to the assault charge would be “problematic” because the affidavit of probable cause did not indicate whether the weapon was recovered.

“We can handle that probably at arraignment,” Wood said.

Court papers alleged that Gonzales had prevented Gallauher from seeing their daughter-in-common since their five-year relationship ended about a month ago.

Gallauher told investigators she had been arguing with Gonzales via text messages Saturday and asked to retrieve their daughter for visitation.

“As soon as Gonzales handed their daughter to Gallauher, he pulled out a knife and began stabbing her several times,” Knutson wrote in the arrest narrative.
