PORT ANGELES — Beginning Saturday, westbound drivers turning right onto Kitchen-Dick Road from U.S. Highway 101 won’t have to nervously watch their rearview mirrors.
And drivers turning onto the highway from Kitchen-Dick Road will have a better view of oncoming traffic.
A state Department of Transportation crew is installing a right-turn lane this week that should reduce rear-end collisions and provide better sight lines for drivers turning onto the highway, Maintenance Supervisor Monty Mills said.
Kitchen-Dick Road leads to the Dungeness Recreation Area and Dungeness National Wildlife Reserve.
The project involves extending the U.S. 101 pavement north to provide room for a dedicated right-turn lane with a four-foot separation from the travel lane, Mills said.
