SEQUIM — Moms ride for free today on Mother’s Day at the Sequim Irrigation Festival carnival at the Sequim High School playfields north of West Fir Street.

For everyone else who didn’t buy advance tickets, the armband tickets are $25 at the gate of the carnival, which will run from noon to 5 p.m.

A downtown arts and crafts show also will be open today on the last day of the final weekend of the 117th Sequim Irrigation Festival.

More than 60 vendors began selling goods Saturday on Bell Street between Sequim and Second avenues, and will continue today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Live local entertainment and food also are planned.

Saturday saw the culmination of the annual celebration, which is the longest continuing festival in the state.

There was a Grand Parade with 130 entries — including Irrigation Festival royalty and other dignitaries — a Kids Parade, classic cars on display, a logging show and the River Center 5K Run to raise funds for the Dungeness River Audubon Center, as well as the arts and crafts show, a merchants show, the Sequim Open Aire Market and the carnival, which began Thursday.

The Irrigation Festival celebrates more than 100 years of Dungeness Valley irrigation ditches, which have made the desert area bloom into rich farmland.

Friday offered an artists’ reception for the 36th annual Fine Arts Exhibit at the Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Exhibit Center at 175 W. Cedar St. in Sequim, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

The juried show, in which more than $1,500 in cash and merchandise prizes was awarded, will be on display through May 27.

There also was the Strongman Showdown at Blake Avenue Lot, followed by fireworks at dusk.
