Cash registers stolen at Port Angeles businesses

PORT ANGELES — Police are investigating the disappearances of three cash registers from different businesses between Sunday and Monday morning.

“They broke two windows, and it looked like they used some sort of a device for breaking tempered glass,” said Erich Seifert, co-owner of the Good To Go Natural Grocery at 105 S. Eunice St. in Port Angeles, where a cash register containing $150 was taken.

“It’s kind of a drag,” he said.

A security camera inside the store was not turned on, Seifert said.

Cash registers were also taken from drive-up coffee stands on U.S. Highway 101 just east of the city limit and on Lincoln Street, said Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith.

Those tills were empty.

“Both had entry by breaking the window,” Smith said.

“We think all the crimes are related. We’ve recovered some physical evidence at one of those scenes.”

The Port Angeles Police Department and Clallam County Sheriff’s Department are conducting a joint investigation.

Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call the Port Angeles Police Department at 360-452-4545. Tips can be left anonymously.

Port Angeles Police Sgt. Glenn Roggenbuck said the incidents are unusual for Port Angeles.

“They typically don’t take the whole cash register,” Roggenbuck said of the burglars.

The first report of the thefts was received about 3 a.m. Monday, Smith said.
