PORT ANGELES — Tonight, it’s possible to eat spaghetti, tip “celebrity” waiters and help people with cancer.
The biggest fundraiser of the Port Angeles Soroptimist Noon Club’s Pink Up Port Angeles campaign will begin at 5 p.m. at the Chestnut Cottage, 929 E. Front St.
Diners can eat a spaghetti dinner at the Chestnut Cottage while “celebrity” waiters — people known around town — compete for tips.
The dinner, which is available for a $10 donation, will be served until 8 p.m.
Proceeds go to Operation Uplift, a Port Angeles-based grass-roots support group that offers education, information, support meetings, a 24-hour phone line, free clinics, prostheses and wigs for both women and men with all types of cancer.
The 2010 Pink Up campaign raised more than $27,000, said Soroptimist Linda DeBord.
“All the money raised stays local in Port Angeles for the use of people here,” she said.
Basket of goodies
During tonight’s dinner, a basket of goodies from Frannie’s Gifts will be raffled.
“Celebrity” waiters are Tom Baermann, owner of Pacific Office Equipment of Port Angeles; Ray Gruver, State Farm Insurance agent; John Brewer, editor and publisher of the Peninsula Daily News; Sue Stoneman, advertising operations manager for the PDN; Terri Wood, loan officer and assistant vice president at First Federal; Jeanine Lee, loan officer at First Federal; Terry Neske, owner of Windermere Real Estate; Jennifer Holcomb, associate broker at Windermere; Kathy Love, owner/broker of Port Angeles Realty; Vonnie McKnight, mortgage lender for Network Funding; and Port Angeles Police Chief Terry Gallagher.
The Pink Takeover at Chestnut Cottage is underwritten by First Federal.
The Pink Up Port Angeles campaign began Saturday with a bake sale at Swain’s General Store and a free breast health clinic sponsored by Olympic Medical Center and First Federal, continued Sunday with the second annual Pink Up Port Angeles Pooch and Papa Walk along the Waterfront Trail — underwritten by Randy’s Auto Sales and Leitz Farms — and “pinked out” City Pier, with the help of OMC, during Wednesday’s first performance in the free Concerts on the Pier summer series.
Golf tournament
On Friday, the Soroptimists’ Tees Off for Cancer Golf Tournament is planned at Peninsula Golf Club, 824 S. Lindberg Road, Port Angeles.
Tee time will be at noon. Prizes will include a 2011 GMC Sierra truck, an Apple iPod and an Amex gift card, DeBord said.
The cost is $80 per golfer or $45 for Peninsula Golf Course members.
The Mac Ruddell Community Fund has always sponsored this event, DeBord said.
Also sponsoring it are All Weather Heating and Cooling, Strait View Credit Union, Copy Cat Graphics, Sweetest Things Photography and Rudy’s Automotive.

On Saturday, the group plans a Finale Celebration dinner and auction at the Port Angeles CrabHouse Restaurant, 221 N. Lincoln St.
Tickets for the chicken dinner, which will begin at 6 p.m., are $35 each or two for $60. A few will be available at the door.
Both a silent and live auction are planned, with items including tickets for four to a Seattle Mariners’ game, a fly-fishing trip for two, a gourmet dinner for six, a trip to Victoria, a bunco party and dinner for 16, and a salt-water charter for two.
More than 70 items will be in the silent auction.
