Observances marking the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States are planned across the North Olympic Peninsula.
In Port Townsend, East Jefferson Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Ted Krysinski will lead a brief memorial service commemorating those lost Sept. 11, 2001, on Sunday.
The memorial service will be at 9 a.m. at the Bell Tower, corner of Jefferson and Tyler streets.
It is expected to last less than 30 minutes.
In addition to representatives of the fire department, Port Townsend police will be in attendance.
All members of the public are welcome to attend.
The Bell Tower is currently under renovation, so space may be limited.
VFW Patriot Day
In Sequim on Sunday, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4760 will honor local fire, police and EMTs with a Patriot Day celebration and dinner.
The dinner will be at 3 p.m. at the VFW Post at 169 E. Washington St.
The event also marks the return of Sequim police officers from their journey to New York City to bring back a piece of the World Trade Center for a future memorial in Sequim.
The event is open to the public, and there is no cost for the dinner.

Forks commemoration
A memorial service to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks is planned in Forks on Sunday.
The service will be at 9 a.m. at the Forks Transit Center, 551 S. Forks Ave.
Sept. 11 was designated by former President George W. Bush as Patriot Day on Dec. 18, 2001.
On Patriot Day, Americans are expected to fly their flags at half-staff.
In addition, Gov. Chris Gregoire has directed that flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff.
Assembly today in Port Angeles school
While most 9/11 observances are Sunday, an assembly is planned today at Roosevelt Elementary School in Port Angeles.
The assembly will begin at 10 a.m. at the school at 106 Monroe Road.
Flag-raising and music are scheduled during the half-hour ceremony. The public is welcome to attend.
Expected to attend as guests will be representatives of the Port Angeles Police Department, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, the State Patrol, the Coast Guard, Port Angeles High School ROTC, Lower Elwha Tribal Police, Port Angeles Fire Department, Clallam County Fire District No. 2, Olympic National Park, the National Forest Service, U.S. Border Patrol, Army Recruiting Department and Clallam County Emergency Management Division.
